Introducing our new dementia accreditation for professionals

The Dementia Centre has released a new accreditation for professional carers, the Dementia Capability Compass.

Designed to recognise the ability of dementia consultants to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia, their families and carers, as well as reduce the impacts of behaviour - the Dementia Capability Compass sets a new standard for aged care.

What areas will be assessed?

Looking at the approaches, practices and outcomes of dementia consultants in the aged care industry - the accreditation will identify capability in the following areas:

  • Demonstrating person centered practice
  • Currency in evidence based practice knowledge
  • Competence and skills in application of evidence
  • Demonstration of capacity building for teams and individual to support effective sustainable care
  • Values based multidisciplinary working
  • Skills and competence in clinical practice and evidence based understanding of complex needs
  • Understanding and management capability of clinical and psychosocial factors in behaviour responses

Who will be accredited?

The accreditation will be awarded to dementia consultants who:

  • Show a high standard of practice and strong capability in the provision of dementia specific expert consulting services
  • Demonstrate individual knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Commit to person centered care
  • Confirm their capability to serve people living with dementia

This professional accreditation aims to facilitate care that’s adaptable and responsive to change.
