Dementia Support Australia2Dementia Support Australia (DSA) is an Australian government-funded national partnership led by HammondCare that incorporates Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service (DBMAS) and the Severe Behaviour Response Teams (SBRT). The service brings a diverse range of dementia expertise from across the aged care industry of Australia through a network of offices across the country. DSA consultants provide timely, on-the-ground support, maintaining local knowledge and relationships.

The Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service (DBMAS) aims to:

  • Improve the quality of life and care for people with dementia and their carers
  • Up-skill, assist and support aged care providers in improving care for people with dementia and related behaviours
  • Ensure care services for people with dementia are responsive to their individual and diverse needs and circumstances.

When aged care providers contact DSA to request assistance, trained consultants will identify cases of aged care residents who are experiencing ‘severe behaviours’ and will escalate them to SBRT support.

The specialist SBRT comprises of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals who will provide a rapid, mobile response to people with dementia in residential aged care.
