Aged care makeover: How to maximise your home's potential on a budget

Residential Aged Care Managers and staff working in residential or community care setting.

Many care homes have limited budgets to refurbish, expand or remodel. Sometimes making changes just seems too hard, especially with all the pressures of ‘business as usual’. It’s also easy to get complacent, or become immune to the problems of the care environment, which may be impacting residents’ quality of life. These talks outline the basics of where to focus your efforts with reference to Standard 5 of the Aged Care Quality Standards, and gives low cost tips to help unlock your home’s potential.

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Name the key principles of good dementia design in care home environments and why they make a difference.
  • Identify in your care environment a key strength to make the most of, and opportunities for change.
  • Understand the impact of Standard 5 and how to work towards meeting it.
  • Give examples of low cost or free design interventions
  • Be able to communicate back to your team how to make change happen and prioritise change.
