Hi There, I just wondered if there is any companies that produce a watch, that you can record a message on, other than one that just speaks the time. I have searched on the internet but have not had any luck. Thanks |

Hi Tammy, Could you give me a bit more info on what you want the watch to do? Is it that you want to record custom messages for certain times of the day, sort of like a alarm / reminder kind of thing ? i.e. at 2 o'clock you could set it to say 'take you blue tablet' ??? Please let me know and I'll look into it for you. I have a few contacts who'll be right up to date with this kind of technology. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon! Steve M. Hi Steve, Thanks very much for your reply! Yes, Im looking for a gentleman's watch (ideally a nice looking one) and it would be a custom message for reminder,e.g. at 1.00pm 'please take the blue tablets', and then say at 7pm 'please eat your dinner.' The only one's that I have found just seem to speak the time only! I appreciate your help. Tammy |

Hi Tammy, Sorry about the delay in replying, but I've had some information back. Not an ideal answer I imagine but hope it goes some way to helping your situation.... Firstly, have you seen our Assistive Technology Catalogue? The catalogue is in PDF format and has a comprehensive list of innovative items to make day to day tasks a little easier. There are many dispensers, clocks, calendars, etc, and many that have a combination of visual / audible notifications that can be set. There lots of useful equipment in there and a list of suppliers with contact details at the end of the catalogue. Very useful to download and keep ! You can find it by clicking Here I also got some information back from the equipment specialist I contacted. The piece of equipment they suggested was called a talking tap memo which is sold by a company called Cobolt, but they weren't sure if it isn’t too complicated for what you need. Here's some info anyway ... The talking tap memo functions as... 1) Phone book and will accept up to 60 entries. 2) Appointment calendar –Up to 30 appointments, each with a reminder and chronological play back function. 3) Memo taker – Up to 30 memos, each one minute long. These can be recalled using a name tag. The person I contacted was thinking the appointment calendar programme might be able to deliver the function you’re looking for. Cobolt can be contacted on 01493 700172 and apparently they are very helpful ! The retail price is around £89 so it’s not cheap ! They also had a word with their brain injury specialist who advised that maybe a simpler approach would be best. He suggested a simple white board, in a prominent position that reminders could be written on. I have also had a think myself, and although it might be a more complicated option; some mobile phones (smartphones) ALREADY have this functionality. mp3 ringtones are just basically audio files. An mp3 could be recorded that had some instructions on it ('such as take your tablet'). This 'custom ringtone' could then be assigned to be played at a specific time using the alarm clock function on the phone, and you can usually have a different mp3 assigned to each alarm that is set. There's plenty of phones about that can do these functions and if you chose to go down this route and had trouble recording the mp3's, I'd be more than willing to give you a hand to sort it out. Lastly, if you have a PC that can be used then maybe you could also investigate the many alarm clocks that are available on the net. Some are free, many are shareware (a small fee is required to activate all the features). I did a quick search and found this Alarm Clock. I haven't looked at this so can't really comment on if it works / how good it is, but it seems to give the impression that it might do what you want. Please be careful when downloading free software though, and make sure your virus checking software is on and up to date ! Sorry for the long post and hope that this might go some way to pointing you in the right direction ! If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask and hope to see you in the Online Support chatroom one Tuesday night (7pm - 9pm). Steve M, PSS Development Unit. |

Hi Steve, Thanks so mcuh for all the information you have provided, I really appreciate it. I never realised there was a talking tap memo either. I will definitely follow up the information. Many thanks Tammy |
