Hope and understanding for dementia

A week long event has been launched for carers, professionals and the public as a new report calls for better care for people with dementia, and a study of 210 hospitals in England and Wales by the National Audit of Dementia found that just 32 per cent of staff had enough training in caring for people with dementia.

PSS, working with Liverpool Hope University and Alzheimer’s Society, is running a series of sessions to share information and experience about dementia.

PSS Dementia Centre News - Hope and Understanding

“Hope and Understanding” is a free, public event at Hope University’s Eden Building in Taggart Avenue, from Monday, January 9 until Friday, January 13, 2012. The government’s “Dementia Tsar”, Professor Alistair Burns, will be leading a talk about how the use of antipsychotic drugs can be reduced. Carers and the public can get advice on what support is available, what financial help there is and how those affected by dementia can plan their futures.

There will be information on the latest developments for people working in the field, drama performances and Alzheimer’s Society’s Singing for the Brain – a social group that uses music and song to bring people affected by dementia together.

It’s a free event, open to everyone and people can choose which hourly sessions they would like attend.
